RIBBONS at Mitmacht – The Democracy Festival in Berlin
From 23 to 25 September, Renee van Bavel will present her art performance RIBBONS at Mitmacht – The Democracy Festival in Berlin.
From 23 to 26 September, people and organisations from across the German-speaking democracy community will come together in Berlin for a festival dedicated to collective strategies, exchange and action.
The festival creates a space for shared ideas, new perspectives and the exchange of experiences:
How can we better connect and align our approaches and strategies? What can we learn from one another? And how can we turn ideas into collective action?
The art performance RIBBONS will part of this gathering as a work about remembrance, peace and human connection. Created from memorial ribbons that have been laid at commemorative events, memorial sites and ceremonies all around the world in remembrance of war, dictatorship, oppression, and violence against humanity.
During a live art performance, artist Renee van Bavel sews the ribbons together – connecting stories, places and people across time and borders.
RIBBONS invites us to reflect on our shared past, the time we live in today, and our place in shaping the future.
