Artist in Residence at the Memorial & Museum Sachsenhausen, the Death March Memorial in Below Forest, and the National Memorial Ravensbrück.
From January 2022 until April 2024, I worked as Artist in Residence at the Memorial & Museum Sachsenhausen, the Death March Memorial in Below Forest, and the National Memorial Ravensbrück.
Sachsenhausen was a Nazi concentration camp in Oranienburg, Germany, situated near Berlin. It operated from 1936 until the defeat of the Nazi Regime in May 1945.
The Death March Memorial in the Below Forest is dedicated to the victims of the Sachsenhausen concentration camp death march. It is located in a forest area near the Brandenburg town of Wittstock/Dosse, on the border with Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in Germany.
Ravensbrück, located in Fürstenberg, Germany, was a Nazi concentration camp built by the SS specifically for women prisoners. It was operational from 1936 until the defeat of the Nazi Regime in May 1945.
During my 2.5-year residency at these three memorials, I introduced new artistic concepts and developed innovative methods for commemorating and preserving the legacy of these historical sites.
Through artworks such as the landscape artwork “LIFELINE,” the film “I WRITE YOUR NAME,” the project “EVERY WOMAN A MONUMENT,” and the concept for the new commemoration ceremony “GEDENK. FEIER,” I developed novel ways to commemorate these places and ensure their stories are accessible to future generations.
