RIBBONS is an ongoing artwork composed of wreath ribbons laid at commemorative services and memorials around the world in remembrance of the Second World War.
Over the course of a year, I have collected these ribbons. Now, in public spaces such as the Humboldt Forum in Berlin, I sew them together into one large, colorful, and unifying artwork.
As a live art performance in public locations—accessible to everyone—I connect these ribbons by hand.
With a white thread, I sew together all these different ribbons—with all their different languages, colors, shapes and perspectives — into one unifying artwork: RIBBONS.
I am sewing while President Volodymyr Zelensky is speaking with Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin, just two kilometers from me, about new arms deliveries to Ukraine.
I sew while Donald Trump comes to power.
While the AfD becomes the second largest party in Germany.
I sew while the Middle East burns.
I am sewing to show what unites us — at a time when so much divides us.
